A couple of months back, Essento launched Insect Tuesday. We already have Veggie Thursday, and some people eat fish on Friday.
Now eating insects once is a good start, if you’ve already tasted bugs, that’s great. But if you want to have a real impact, you’d have to eat insects more regularly and not just “for fun”. That’s why Essento launched Insect Tuesday, they want people to understand that bugs are a real alternative and possibly very beneficial for the planet.
Even if you don’t stick to it, it’s worth trying, once a week really isn’t much, considering I’m doing it every day, and eating insects is also a great way to launch a conversation!
I would have cooked a nice meal, but I’m actually purging my bugs at home so they’ll be ready to eat in a couple of day. Plus, considering I’m going to talk about Essento, why not eat one of Essento’s products? The Insect Bar.
Here are the ingredients:
Dates (20%), apples (20%), raisins, crickets (Acheta domesticus)(10%), cranberries (cranberries, sugar, sunflower oil), figs (10%), lemon juice, natural aroma, antioxidant: sulphite.
Containing only fruits and insects, what could go wrong?
One bite, that’s all it took. I’m definitely convinced, it tastes just like a cloud of angels.
More seriously though, it tastes like a fruit bar, and once again, I can’t say I can feel the insects, you just benefit from their nutritional value without knowing they are there. I actually started with a smallish bite to get the taste, but gobbled the rest in a mouthful because it was amazing.
I would gladly write a whole paragraph about Essento, but you have a 12-minute podcast instead, and I don’t want to pressure you, but… listen to it! You can open it at the top of the article. No time to waste: rating time. On a scale from 1 to 10:
- Essento’s Insect Bar is the first to score 10/10. I would probably have rated the scorpions as high too, but it was my first day, so I couldn’t, it’s been 8 now and this insect bar is delicious. If I have anything to say, it would be: make it bigger! On the defence of all the other products I tasted, I like sugary stuff the most.
